Florida passes 11,500 coronavirus cases, with nearly 200 deaths in the state

The Florida Health Department said Saturday evening the state now has 11,545 confirmed
COVID-19 cases — a jump of 1,277 from the day before — and 195 deaths. That’s an increase of 25 deaths.

One of the deaths is that of Broward Sheriff Deputy Shannon Bennett, who was 39 when he succumbed to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Including Bennett, Broward lost 10 more people since Friday night to bring its total to 32 deaths from the virus.

The Florida Department of Health’s COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard reported fewer cases in Broward Saturday evening than it did Saturday morning. The morning’s report showed 1,792 confirmed positives, 40 of which are non-residents. The evening report showed 1,765 total cases, with 43 being non-residents. It’s a glitch that has occurred before without explanation. (Miami Herald)
